Let WooCommerce customers save multiple addresses (block checkout included)

WooCommerce keeps one billing and one shipping address per customer. Here’s how to let customers save more and pick one at checkout, block or classic.

WordPress 6.5+, WooCommerce 8.2+, Unwan, and a customer account to test with

To save multiple addresses in WooCommerce, you need an address book plugin. On its own, WooCommerce keeps one billing address and one shipping address per customer, and a new address typed at checkout replaces the saved one. This tutorial sets up Unwan, which adds an address book to My Account and a picker to the block and classic checkout.

Can WooCommerce save multiple addresses on its own?

No. Each customer account holds one billing address and one shipping address, which customers edit under My Account → Addresses. Checkout fills those two in, and an order can still use a different shipping and billing address: the block checkout has a Use same address for billing box, and the classic one has a Ship to a different address? box.

When a customer sends an order to their office, WooCommerce saves the office as their shipping address, and the home address is gone until they type it again. If your customers always buy for one place, that’s fine and you don’t need a plugin. If they send gifts or buy for a business with more than one site, an address book saves them the retyping.

Block checkout or classic: which one does your store use?

WooCommerce has two checkouts. Since WooCommerce 8.3, new stores start on the block checkout, while older stores keep the classic, shortcode-based one until someone switches. To check yours, open Pages → Checkout in the editor. A Checkout block with its own settings panel means the block checkout; the [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode means the classic one.

Not every address book plugin works in the block checkout, so look for Checkout block support on a plugin’s listing before you install it. Unwan works in both. The steps below are the same either way, and switching checkouts later doesn’t mean setting it up again.

How to save multiple addresses in WooCommerce with Unwan

These steps use Unwan, an address book for WooCommerce. They take you from install to a test order, so keep a customer login handy to try it with.

  1. 01

    Install and activate Unwan

In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New Plugin and search for Unwan Multiple Address Book. Click Install Now on Unwan, then Activate.

WooCommerce has to be active first, and WordPress won’t activate Unwan without it. Unwan sets up its My Account page as it activates, so you don’t need to resave your permalinks. The installation guide lists the requirements.

    WP-CLI
    wp plugin install unwan-for-woocommerce --activate
  2. 02

    Check the address book settings

Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Accounts & Privacy → Unwan. Nothing here has to change before customers can use it, but it’s worth a minute to see what the Address book settings do:

    • Billing checkout selector and Shipping checkout selector turn the picker on for each address. Both start switched on.
    • Additional address limit caps how many extra addresses a customer can keep. 0 means unlimited, and the billing and shipping defaults don’t count towards it.
    • Address search threshold decides when a filter box appears above a long list.
    • Save checkout addresses adds a new address typed at checkout to the customer’s book.
    • New address defaults decides whether that new address also becomes their default. It starts on Keep the current defaults, so a one-off delivery address won’t replace the customer’s usual one.

The settings reference explains the rest, including what happens to saved addresses if you ever delete the plugin.

  3. 03

Save two addresses in My Account

Sign in as your test customer and open My Account. Unwan replaces the usual Addresses item with Address book. Click Add new address, fill in a full address and save it with both default boxes unticked. It becomes an extra address the customer can use for billing or shipping.

Add a second address, open its action menu and choose Make default shipping. If the customer already had a shipping address, it stays in the book as a regular saved address, because changing a default never deletes one.

  4. 04

    Place a test order

Still signed in as that customer, add a product to the cart and go to checkout. Above the address fields you’ll see the default shipping address as a short summary with a Change button. Click it to see every saved address, with Enter a new address at the end of the list.

Choose Enter a new address, type one you haven’t saved and place the order. Back in the address book, the new address is there and the customer’s defaults haven’t moved. When a customer picks a saved address instead, it’s used for that order and their defaults stay put.

  5. 05

    Match it to your store

This step is optional. Back in Accounts & Privacy → Unwan, set Color mode to Light, Dark or Follow the customer’s device, and pick an Accent color. The checkout picker and the address book both follow it without any CSS. Under Text and labels you can rename the customer-facing text, such as Deliver to, and the appearance guide lists every label.

How customers manage their saved addresses in My Account

Once it’s live, customers look after their own addresses from My Account → Address book. Anyone who already has an address on file finds it there straight away as their billing or shipping default. Two cards at the top show the current defaults, and below them every address sits in one list, defaults first. Each row has a menu to edit the address, make it the billing or shipping default, or delete it.

An address that holds a default can’t be deleted until another address takes that role, so a customer is never left without a billing address. If a customer saves an address that’s already in the book, Unwan recognises it, even with different capitals or accents, and doesn’t store it twice.

How the address picker works in the block and classic checkout

In the block checkout, Unwan adds the picker as an inner block of WooCommerce’s own billing and shipping address blocks. It appears in the right place by itself, and nobody can delete it by accident while editing the checkout page. In the classic checkout, the same picker sits above the billing and shipping forms.

The rest of the form keeps WooCommerce’s rules. With local pickup, WooCommerce only asks for a billing address, so the billing picker takes over. If your store requires a field that a saved address doesn’t have, such as a phone number, that field stays open for the customer to fill in. Unwan saves the standard address fields only. Anything a checkout field editor adds stays with that plugin and works as usual.

Why saved addresses aren’t showing at checkout

The picker only appears when a customer has something to pick, so a checkout without it usually has a simple cause. Check these in order:

  • The customer is signed in. Guests always see the normal address fields.
  • The billing or shipping selector is switched on in Accounts & Privacy → Unwan.
  • The customer has at least one address. Their existing billing or shipping address counts.

If My Account → Address book shows “Page not found”, which can happen after copying a site from staging, go to Settings → Permalinks and click Save Changes once. The Unwan FAQ covers the rarer cases.
